Medical Partnership Project

Medical Partnership Project–Strengthening Health Care Provision for Refugees in SyriaSyria, May-June 2009

The goal behind the project was to contribute to building the health-care capacity of governmental and non-governmental bodies that currently serve the refugee population in Syria. Conceived and organized by Georgetown faculty member Rochelle Davis and Georgetown MA Student Omar Shakir, the project was designed as a partnership with local and international institutions. We partnered directly with the UNHCR, UNRWA, the Syrian Ministry of Health, the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, the General Administration for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR), and the Palestine Red Crescent. The Embassy of Syria in Washington, DC generously facilitated approval for the project from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and assisted with visas.
