Who we are
The Georgetown University Open School Chapter is a community of healthcare professionals including hospital administrators, academic faculty and physicians, medical students, nursing students, health systems administration students, and others dedicated to improving healthcare delivery through multidisciplinary learning, teamwork and leadership. We are a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), a global organization whose aim is to improve the lives of patients, the health of communities, and the joy of the healthcare workforce.
What we do
The Chapter works collectively with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) to turn education into action through project design and implementation.
The Chapter convenes monthly to provide students and faculty the necessary tools and skills to engender real change in healthcare delivery by reducing patient harm and improving processes.
Meetings include discussions of case studies and current topics related to quality improvement and patient safety as well information on how to facilitate rapid-cycle change and effective group meetings.
How we are successful
Our Chapter’s success is a result of the hard work and dedication from students and faculty. Since 2010, we have have created a partnership with the San Juan Bautista Open School Chapter in Puerto Rico, presented at the annual IHI National Forum on Quality Improvement, and formed an affiliation with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Center for Patient Safety.
