Georgetown Receives Reaffirmation of MSCHE Accreditation

On June 29, 2012, Georgetown received official notice from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaffirming the University’s accreditation.  You can access Georgetown’s MSCHE official statement of accreditation on their website here.


Georgetown’s Self-Study Report and External Reviewers’ Team Report

Georgetown University’s Self-Study (as submitted to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education) and the MSCHE external reviewers’ team report are now available for the community’s information.


Reviewers to Visit Georgetown April 1-4, 2012

March 19, 2012

Middle States reviewers will be on campus from April 1-4, 2012 for Georgetown’s reaccreditation review.  The team will be chaired by Rebecca Chopp, President of Swarthmore College.  While on campus, reviewers will be meeting with senior leadership, faculty, students, and staff as they evaluate the University’s accreditation status.  Reviewers will be most focused on those Middle States standards addressed in Georgetown’s Self-Study:  Planning; Institutional Assessment; General Education; and Assessment of Student Learning.  To learn more, you can download a copy of the Self-Study here.


Faculty and Staff Town Hall

December 14, 2011

On December 14, a town hall was held to gather faculty and staff input for the draft self-study.  Steering committee co-chairs Randy Bass and Marjory Blumenthal made a presentation to the audience and accepted questions and comments on the process and direction of Georgetown’s self-study.

Circulation and Review of Draft Self-Study

A process of circulation and review of the self-study draft commenced on Friday, November 18, with distribution to University senior leadership.


Preliminary Visit and Document Review

November 15-16, 2011 

The chair of Georgetown’s Middle States re-accreditation team, Rebecca Chopp, President of Swarthmore College, completed her preliminary visit to campus November 15 and 16.  As part of the re-accreditation process, this visit enabled  the Chair to meet with President DeGioia and senior leadership to discuss campus readiness, practical arrangements, and an agenda for the team visit in April, amongst other things.

During the preliminary visit, Georgetown also underwent its document review process for re-accreditation.  Since Georgetown has chosen to undertake the selected topics approach to the self-study, the University must undergo a review of its documentation relative to the accreditation standards not encompassed by the self-study.  This review was completed by two visiting generalist reviewers from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education on November 15 and 16.


Dates Set for Document Review and Team Visit

May 24, 2011

Georgetown University will undergo its documentation review for reaccreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education from November 15-16, 2011.  The preliminary visit of the evaluation team chair will also occur at this time.  The official evaluation team visit is set to be held from April 2-4, 2012.


Steering Committee Hosts Student Input Lunches Spring 2011

From March-April 2011, the Middle States steering committee hosted a series of lunches with students.  These lunches sought to explore a broad range of student perspectives on topics being explored through the Middle States reaccreditation process and self-study.  Discussion topics related to how Georgetown is performing in the key areas of teaching, learning, research, and planning.
