Utility work at the Thompson Athletic Center will begin November 15th, the initial phase of construction for the building. The university was awaiting final permits before beginning construction.
Whiting-Turner, the construction contractor, will dig into the roadway around the site to install new utility lines. This phase is expected to last 6-8 weeks and will involve some jackhammering and excavation work, which will create some noise. Once the new utilities are connected, the roadway will reopen and the contractor will begin digging the foundation.
The approved work hours for the Thompson Athletic Center are 8am-7pm Monday through Saturday. Loud work will not begin before 9am and Saturday is available as a makeup day in the event of inclement weather. Please report any concerns about construction impacts to facilities@georgetown.edu.
The Thompson Athletic Center will provide a new home for Georgetown varsity student athletics and state-of-the-art space that supports the formation of student athletes. The Thompson Athletic Center will feature basketball practice courts, training and sports medicine rooms, team meeting rooms, student lounges and study space, an auditorium, and more. The Thompson Athletic Center is funded entirely through philanthropy and is the largest capital project of the university’s capital campaign. It is scheduled to open for the fall 2016 semester.
