The university will build a sand volleyball court in the Southwest Quad this month, bringing new outdoor activity to the south of campus.
The idea for a volleyball court arose from a desire to enliven an underutilized outdoor space on campus and was made possible through student engagement with administrators. The project is a collaboration between Student Affairs, Planning and Facilities Management, the Student Activities Commission, the Advisory Board for Club Sports and has the generous support of the Pisano Family.
A key principle of the master planning process is to create new outdoor space and improve existing spaces. The court will strengthen the residential living and learning experience by creating a new recreational space in the Southwest Quad. In addition to the court, new grills in the quad provide an opportunity for more outdoor activity and socializing.
Construction will begin this month and will be completed by early December. Some small construction equipment will be on the site to build the court, and all pedestrian pathways will remain open during the project.
