The closest thing to my project isĀ Let the Great World Spin, by Colum McCann. The story is all about how the city (specifically the tightrope walk) brings together all different kinds of people and stories. It unites the different pockets of New York City, bringing together people who seem worlds apart. My project is to show how pockets as different as mummers and single black mothers are connected and lay equal claim to the city. I’ll do this through a presentation of the murals, the most public forum for freedom of expression. Through art, they become Philadelphians and the other barriers break down.

In addition, this project ties to Marsha Music’s “Kidnapped Children of Detroit.” It shows the different sections of the city and the diverse experiences of people living in basically the same place.
