We are excited to feature Nakea Simon as our August intern of the month. This summer, she’s been interning with Maryland Public Television (MPT), where’s had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and apply her journalism skills to different departmental needs. MPS Journalism: What company are you interning with and what are you responsible for?

NS: Maryland Public Television. I am responsible for logging tape for interviews, editing packages, and researching clients.

MPS Journalism: Why were you interested in working with Maryland Public Broadcasting and has the experience matched your expectations?

NS: I was interested in working with MPT because I wanted to grow my skills as a multimedia journalist and I knew MPT would provide me with the opportunities to work with leading professionals in the business to help me grow and learn. The experience thus far has definitely matched my expectations.

NowThis News, a start-up company that’s building the news channel for the mobile and social generation, is looking for a Fall Intern to assist with social media output, video editing, and shooting in our Washington, DC bureau. The Opportunity

We are seeking a Merchandising & Communications Intern who will work directly with the Chief Merchandising Officer in Washington, DC. on a part-time basis. The Merchandising & Communications Intern will be responsible for managing PR initiatives for Curio Road, and attempting to ramp up press visibility and site traffic as much as possible. Requirements:

The ideal candidate for the Merchandising & Communications Intern role will have these characteristics:

  • Strong communication skills over the phone and via email. Must be comfortable speaking to non-familiar parties over the phone, and must have a polished and professional manner in these communications.
  • Available at least 15 hours per week. Our schedule is flexible, but some daytime availability is preferred during the week.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Ability to use shortcuts (Ctrl-C to copy, Ctrl-V to paste, basic arithmetic, etc.) to work quickly is very important.

Track180, Intern

Track180 is a news curation tool for the iPad that tracks important global issues involving energy, the environment, human rights, war and terror, government accountability and corporate responsibility. The issues are tracked not only by topic, but over time. Track180 is looking for an intern who gets the concept, and can articulate why what we do adds value to the news universe. The intern ideally would be based in Washington or New Haven, Conn., to attend occasional meetings, but would be responsible enough to mostly work from home. Established in 1989, IFC’s Advisory Services in Public-Private Partnerships provides advice to national and municipal governments in emerging markets to implement sustainable PPPs that improve living standards and promote long-term economic growth. Since our inception, we have worked on more than 300 private-sector participation transactions worldwide in almost 100 countries. IFC is the only multilateral institution to offer such advisory services to governments directly.

The Editorial Intern will work in the PPP Knowledge Management Team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide writing and editorial support to all department activities
  • Update a publication series called “Success Stories” with project results that have been collected since original publication
  • Update two sector booklets and contribute to the production of additional booklets
  • Work with the KM coordinator to produce written content for the updated external website

 

Period of Performance

The period of performance is flexible dependent on the availability of the selected candidate, but is expected to be from May to September, 2013.

 

Fees

Suburban Hospital, Public Relations/Marketing Intern
