Mobile Medical Letter

The Medical Letter‘s mobile app (iOS and Android) is now available to institutional subscribers – here are the access instructions:

  1. Click on the above link (off-campus users will need to authenticate with last name and GOCard number)
  2. Click on the Mobile Apps link (on the left)
  3. Fill out the form (The password CANNOT have any symbols) and click the register button.
  4. Install the app from the App Store or Google Play.
  5. Login to your account.

About the resource: The Medical Letter publishes critical appraisals of new prescription drugs and comparative reviews of previously approved drugs in its newsletters The Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapeutics and Treatment Guidelines from The Medical Letter.

The Medical Letter relies on a consensus of experts to evaluate drug facts in order to help prescribers choose the most effective drug treatment. The Medical Letter and Treatment Guidelines are crucial resources for unbiased and objective drug information and are completely independent of pharmaceutical industry influence.


[Update] Nursing Reference Center

NRC is now available on the iPhone and iPod Touch and it’s free* for all Georgetown University and Georgetown University Hospital! You can search or browse Quick Lessons, Drug Monographs, Evidence-Based Care Sheets, and more. Here are the access instructions:

  1. Open NRC on your computer and scroll to the bottom of the page.
  2. Click on the link: “NRC iPhone/iPod Touch Application.”
  3. In the pop-up, enter your email address to receive code and installation instructions.
  4. Open your email on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
  5. Click the first link in the email to install the app from the App Store.
  6. Once you have the NRC app installed, click on the second link to activate the content.

Dahlgren Memorial Library now subscribes to the Nursing Reference Center (NRC), which can be accessed from on-campus as well as off-campus.

Nursing Reference Center (NRC) provides a user-friendly point-of-care resource intended for staff nurses, nurse administrators, nursing students, and nurse faculty. It delivers the best available and most recent clinical evidence and knowledge on conditions and diseases, including the following specific modules: Diseases & Conditions, Skills & Procedures, Drug Information, Patient Education, Practice Resources, and Continuing Education.

Also included within the Practice Resources are several searchable and browseable eBooks, including Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses, Davis’s Laboratory & Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications, Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, and more.


Essential Evidence Plus Mobile

Essential Evidence Plus (EE+) just released their mobile-friendly website and it works with most devices: iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, and Blackberry.

If you have never used EE+ before, it provides evidence based resources for point-of-care information. It includes searchable and browsable practice guidelines, Cochrane abstracts, daily POEMs, decision rules, test calculators, dermatological images, and more.

Here are instructions for accessing the mobile version:

  1. Go to EE+ homepage
  2. Click on “My Account” tab
  3. Within the big box that says “Access Personal Profile,” click on “register”
  4. Fill out form from on-campus or off-campus via proxy server
  5. On your device, go to http://www.essentialevidenceplus.com/
  6. To access from off-campus, users will have to log-in with their personal profile username and password

New uCentral Titles

In cooperation with the School of Nursing and Health Studies, we are happy to announce that there are four more titles available within uCentral. uCentral is available on your computer and on your handheld device (iPhone/iPod Touch, Blackberry, Android, Windows Mobile, and Palm). Here are the four new titles:

  • Davis’s Drug Guide
  • Davis’s Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests
  • Diseases and Disorders, 3rd Edition
  • Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis

Instructions for adding these titles if you already have uCentral installed on your device:

  1. Go to uCentral Home page
  2. Click on the PDA link
  3. Log into your account
  4. Select the titles you want to add to your device and click Update.
  5. On your device, open uCentral and tap the update link on the top right corner.
