CNDLS Announces winter Digital Learning Day – “Designing with Canvas”

Faculty exploring Canvas features

Canvas training

As the semester comes to a close, CNDLS is excited to announce our winter Digital Learning Day, “Designing with Canvas,” on Wednesday, December 11. Whether you are a new or experienced Canvas user, we invite you to join us in person to explore design approaches and to spend hands-on time applying what you learn to your own courses.

Participants will begin the day with Designing Your Course in Canvas, an interactive workshop covering best practices for designing and organizing Canvas course sites and optimizing them for student learning, engagement, and assessment.

Guided by CNDLS learning designers, the morning session will address the following questions and include breakout activities to test out the features on your own:

  • How do you want students to navigate your course?
  • How can you organize your course content?
  • How can students complete and submit course work in Canvas?
  • How can students collaborate in Canvas?
  • How can you use Canvas to assess students’ work?

At the end of this guided workshop, participants will have learned:

  • How to use the Home Page and Modules to present and organize course content
  • How to use the Canvas Calendar and Inbox
  • How to use Assignments and the Gradebook

After lunch, participants can get a head start on developing their spring course sites in a Canvas Build-a-Course Workshop in which CNDLS staff will provide one-on-one assistance. University Information Services (UIS) staff will also be available to provide help in migrating content from Blackboard to Canvas.

As a reminder, Blackboard will no longer be available to Georgetown faculty, staff, and students after December 31, 2019, so this is the perfect opportunity to experiment with different Canvas features with on-site support from CNDLS learning designers.

Can’t make the whole day? Don’t worry! We invite all faculty and staff to join us as their schedule allows.
