We have been offering wikis powered by MediaWiki for some time now, but the latest addition to the family of wikis that we offer is Wikispaces, a lighter and more user-friendly wiki platform. Wikispaces uses “what you see is what you get” editing, meaning that you can format your text and resize your images as you edit without having to look at the code behind the page.
In wikis there is no page hierarchy, and every page you create is an autonomous page to which any other page can be linked. What does this mean for the classroom? A single wiki could host a handful of courses in the discipline (if making concept links across courses is preferable), or a wiki could be dedicated exclusively to one course. Talk to us if you’re interested in discussing the possibilities.
As with other tools we offer, we have customized the look and feel of Wikispaces to reflect Georgetown University’s and CNDLS’s branding efforts. We’re still working on integrating Wikispaces with Georgetown’s NetID system, but you can still get started with a Wikispaces wiki today!
